A larger bird with a long, slender beak and mottled brown and white plumage walks across a gravel surface, followed closely by a smaller, downy chick with similar markings. The adult bird repeatedly turns its head back toward the chick while walking, and the chick follows in its wake, staying close to the adult's body.
