A column of soldiers in dark uniforms and white caps marches in formation across a grassy field, their rifles held upright. The scene cuts to two soldiers in fur hats lying in a trench, one with a rifle, as they watch the advancing troops. The sequence repeats with the marching soldiers and the two soldiers in the trench.
