The main subject is a line of sailors on a ship's deck, where one man is shown repeatedly pulling a rope attached to a cannon, while two others stand nearby observing; the scene is set on a wooden deck lined with cannons and features a large ship's wheel and other naval equipment. The scene then cuts to a painting of a nighttime battle, where soldiers fire cannons from a fort under a sky filled with explosions and a large American flag.
