Vader is the father.

Darth Vader stands in a dimly lit control room, raising his right hand as if using the Force, then slowly lowers it. The scene cuts to a young man with a bloody face, then to Vader standing on a platform above a vast, circular shaft, before the camera plunges down the dark, spiraling tunnel.
