Mulan is shown in a series of scenes: she appears with a sad expression, then kneels while holding a sword, followed by a scene where she is being instructed by a man, then she writes Chinese characters on her arm with a brush, and finally she smiles while standing under cherry blossoms. The setting changes from a dark interior with calligraphy to an outdoor garden.
